Published a few months before my eldest was born, I sorely regret not having come across this bilingual parenting book back then. It would probably have saved us from a lot of heartache by opening our eyes on rearing our kids bilingual and choosing the right strategy from the beginning. I cannot recommend this book enough, as it takes a very practical approach to the topic, far from dull scientific reads. This book is a very easy read with an extensive buffet of food for thought. Being a bilingual couple does not mean that having bilingual kids is a “done” thing. A must read for all bilingual parents to pre-empt the numerous pitfalls on their bilingual journey and make the latter as smooth as possible.
Adam Beck is a bilingual dad, English teacher and writer who shares his amazing experience and tips to bring up your children bilingual. He started with his wonderful blog, Bilingual Monkeys, which is such a hit that at popular request he had to create a spin-off forum! The forum is an amazing, positive and supporting community, which has been a life changer for me as a trilingual mum. I could not thank enough Adam for his great work.
So if you are looking for something easy to read and taking a practical approach to bilingual education, get your hands on this book without further ado! And be sure to join The Bilingual Zoo to find more ideas, get advice, to discuss and to get support on your journey. Another great thing about this book is that it is structured in 2 sections: Perspectives and Principles, each with chapters per topic, making it very easy to revert to and re-read later on when a bilingual education issue creeps up again in your life.
